Early Childhood Education

I began teaching at Calhoun in August of 2015. I am on my 4^th year here. I have been with OPSB for 5 years in Pre K. 

I began teaching in 2007, I got my start at a private school in Baton Rouge. I taught at Holy Family Catholic School where I taught for 4 years. I began teaching in middle school but quickly realized that was not for me! My biggest impact on becoming a teacher was my mother who taught Special Education for many years and then went on to become a Special Education Supervisor here for Ouachita Parish. She passed away in 2017 but Special Education was her passion and she would do anything for the kids and teachers in our school district. My goal is to have the impact that she did on her students, parents, and other educators! 

In 2012 I married Kurt Mayes, we have been blessed with two beautiful and active little boys. Jackson 5 and Mason 3, Jackson is in Kindergarten here at Calhoun and Mason will be here shortly. We are fully committed to this community and look forward to our boys growing up out here. We also have a vibrant 2 year old blood hound, Ellie. There is never a dull moment at our house!
